Al-Aqsa mosque is the third holiest place in Islam, the second house of worship on Earth, and was the first direction of prayer for Muslims. One prayer in Al-Aqsa mosque is equivalent to 500 times the prayers in any other mosque except for the Haram Mosque in Makka and the Prophet's (An-Nabawi) Mosque in Madina. In the journey to heaven, Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) prayed in Al-Aqsa mosque, leading all the prophets. The silver-domed mosque is 80 meters long and 55 meters wide. The mosque is built on 53 pure marble columns and has 7 alleys leading to 7 big doors. Inside the mosque there are 49 squared granite columns supporting its ceiling wooden beams. The mosque's sanctuary is built on quartz columns and its speech stand (mimbar) of Salah al-Din Al-Ayyubi, is decorated by ivory and ebony. The mosque was re-built by Abdul-Malek Ibn Marwan in 691.
Dome of the Rock mosque is one of the most beautiful examples of Islamic architecture. Dome of the Rock was built in in 685 and finished in 692, by the Umayyad Khalif Abdul-Malek Ibn Marwan. The mosque is built from marble and decorated by ceramic tiles and Quranic mosaic, giving traditional motifs and coherent colors. The mosque is octagonal in shape, having 8 sides. Each side has a door and 7 windows, with rock-crystal carving. The dome is made of gold. Right in the middle, the mosque hosts the honored rock on which the Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) stood on, before he was raised to heaven.
Al-Ibrahimi Mosque is the third Islamic holiest place in Palestine, located in the city of Khalil al-Rahman (Hebron). Since 1967, the occupation authorities have changed its structure. Its drinking well, eastern door and steps, and one of the towers have been demolished. Currently, more than half of the mosque has been transformed into a synagogue.
The steps which led to its transformation started in 1972 when the Israeli Supreme Court issued a decree allowing Jews to pray inside the Muslim mosque. Since then Jews regularly visited the mosque to pray, drink alcohol, and hang Jewish symbols. On Feb. 25, 1994, (Friday dawn, the 15th of the Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan) a Jewish terrorist from Keryat Arba' settlement, Dr. Goldstien, massacred 60 Muslim worshippers in the mosque and wounded over 200. Later, the authorities rewarded the terrorist by semi-closing the mosque and allowing only 300 Muslims to pray, after passing through heavy electronic security checks.
Since 1967, Al-Aqsa mosque has been the target of several attempts by the occupation authorities to destroy or burn it, including several attempts to bring about its collapse through underground excavations (shown above). The Jerusalem Islamic Supreme Council had repeatedly warned against such activities. On August 21, 1969, an attempt was made to burn Al-Aqsa mosque. The U.N. has passed a resolution, Number 1512, condemning Israel for the attempt and calling for preserving Jerusalems entity and its holy sites. Zionists believe Al-Aqsa and Dome of the Rock mosques should be dismantled to build the temple mount instead. "There is no meaning of Israel without Jerusalem and there is no meaning of Jerusalem without the temple," Ben Gurion.
