He was known as "Mufassir Al-Qur'an" for his great tafseer of the Holy Qur'an. His tafseer was unique since it was originated in the 20th Century. The most popular tafseers to be found nowadays are: Ibn-Katheer, Al-Jalalin, and Al-Kortobi which were originated in the 13th Century or even before. Sayyid Qutb's work was another milestone in the "Qur'anic Tafseer" in the 20th Century.
As a dedicated Muslim, Qutb spent his early life studying the Qur'an and Sunnah, and later on he became a well known Imam who taught Islam to many people all over Egypt. Communism was overwhelming in Egypt, and President Jamal Abdel-Nasir had his arms wide open for Moscow. Islam denounces Communism all together, and that's what made Muslim Imams targets for the unjust political system of President Jamal Abdel-Nasir.
Sayyid Qutb lived his late life with one Lung, and while in his 60s, Sayyid Qutb was sent to prison under a pressure from the Soviet Union on President Jamal . Moscow wanted President Jamal to crack down on every Muslim Movement and to silence every Muslim Imam in Egypt.
In 1965, an intense Hate and Animosity toward Islam and Muslims made President Jamal Abdel-Nasir to order the hanging of Sayyid Qutb and the hanging to take place before "Dawn" the Fajr Prayer, so Jamal wouldn't get any objection from the Islamic World.
The night of the execution, Sayyid Qutb had a dream of our beloved Prophet Mohammd (pbuh) riding a white Horse. The Prophet (pbuh) came toward Sayyid Qutb and after getting off the horse, the Prophet (pbuh) extended his greetings to Sayyid Qutb and said to him: " Congratulation on your martyrdom Sayyid Qutb ". Sayyid Qutb woke up not knowing that a few hours later he will be put to death. The Dawn hours passed by and the Prison Guard came to Qutb's Cell and yelled: " Get ready, you have been transferred to another Cell ". Right a way, Qutb knew the Egyptian's government wicked intentions, and he replied: " I know I'm going to be transferred, but to a Heaven owned by a Mighty King " and he recited the following Verse:
Under the shabby darkness of an awful night, Sayyid Qutb was led to his final Cell to be hanged, and the executioner was about to tie Qutb's hands behind his back, and that's when Qutb said: " Don't worry, I'm not fleeing from Heaven, I'm going to meet Allah.......
We ask the Almighty Allah to bless Sheik Sayyid Qutb's faithful, and honorable soul, and to reward him beyond plenty in the hereafter.......Amen.

This is how President Jamal Abdel-Nasir treated the Muslims. He never won a battle against Israel, and yet he exercised his muscles on Muslims whom their crime was the call for Allah. The typical life in Egypt has been and still horrible. People don't have a place to live in, so they are turning to the Cemeteries for refuge. Food shortages, Starvation, Crime and Government Corruption is a common thing in Egypt.
